Trade Navigator, developed by Ealing Market Data Engineering Co. Ltd., is an online searchable database. It now contains more than 40 millions of ocean shipment records (bills of lading) from the U.S. Customs, and it is still growing as new data from the U.S. Customs are being added every 15 days. So you can see nearly all shipments entering the U.S. or via the U.S. to other American countries such as Canada, Brazil, Mexico etc. Trade Navigator includes detailed information about the shipper (exporter), consignee (importer), product description, arrival date, and container number, etc. Trade Navigator helps you:

Case I: You are an importer in the U.S. looking for overseas suppliers that sell titanium products.
Case II: You are exporting titanium products to the U.S. and looking for quality customers.

Step one: Search
First, let's find the records (bills of lading) with keyword Titanium in their product descriptions. Type Titanium under Product in the search panel, and then click Run Search. (In this case, we did the search by product keyword, and of course you could do a search by shipper, or consignee, or any other item on the search panel.) Please see below:
Now you can click More at the bottom of the screen to see the next page, or click the column title Shipper or Consignee to re-sort the records. You could also click the small icon at the right side of each record to see the details. For this example, let's see the details of one record:

Step Two: Reports
First, click Report at the up left corner of your screen to open up the report panel. Then type in any report title you want. In this case, I wrote Titanium Top 10 Suppliers. Then choose your Report Range, in this case we are doing this report based on All the records. Now, for Report Result, we choose Top 10. For Report Template, we choose Summary Report. (You can also try out other types of report to see what they do.). And we make this report for shippers, so pick Shipper in Summary of. Last, we want to sort this report by Weight.
Now click Run Report. The result is as follows:
So, now you can see the top 10 exporters who are exporting titanium products to the U.S., sorted by the total exported weight. What if we want to find quality suppliers by studying our competitors. Let's do a Profile Report. This way, we will find the top buyers of titanium products and see all of their suppliers.
This time, we choose Profile Report in Report Template, and for Profile of, we choose Consignee. Then click Run Report. Let's see what it does:
On this Profile Report, titled Titanium Top 10 Buyers, you can see the top ten buyers of Titanium, and all their suppliers, sorted by total exported weight.
Step Three: Charts
We now know the suppliers we are interested in. What if we want to know about their exporting timings, their market shares, or their market positions in terms of number of customers and shipments. What do we do? Let's run some charts.
First, click Chart at the up left corner of your screen to open up the chart panel. Then type in a chart title. In this case, I wrote Titanium Top 10 Suppliers. Then choose your Chart Range, in this case we are making charts based on All the records. Now, for Chart Result, we choose Top 10. We are making charts for shippers so in Content By we choose Shipper. Now click the Run Chart button:
This Market Trend chart shows the top 10 suppliers and their exporting amount (total weight) in each month. Please note that this is based on Arrival date on bills of lading.
If you click Market Share, it will switch to a pie chart, showing the top 10 suppliers and their market shares:
If you click Market Position, you will see the following chart. Each dot represents a shipper/exporter. The Y aixs shows the number of consignees an exporter has, the X axis shows the number of shipments, and the area of a dot shows the total weight that shipper/exporter has exported.

Let's do a Profile Report. This way, we will find the top suppliers (our competitors) of titanium products, and see all of their customers.
